UNIVERSITY RECOGNITION

UNIVERSITY RECOGNITION

IB Diploma graduates gain entry to selective universities around the world. In many countries, including the UK, Spain, USA and Germany, the IBDP is been formally recognised and there are equivalence tables for direct access to universi-ties. Universities and colleges are confident that IBDP results are consistent from year to year and that they are not subject to grade inflation as is of-ten the case in national educational systems.

The counselor will offer students:

  1. Guidance in choosing IBDP courses and selecting a university based on your interests, university requirements, and teacher recommendations.
  2. Tips for them to learn to manage their time, to organize themselves and to improve their research skills.
  3. Guidance for writing your “Personal Statement” (cover letter) for university applications.
  4. Preparation for interviews if they were a requirement for university access.
  5. Help completing applications for university access.
  6. Help in the preparation of the necessary documentation for university access once the results have been published.

RECOGNITION IN UNIVERSITIES

IBDP graduates gain access to select universities around the world. In many countries, including the United Kingdom, Spain, the United States and Germany, the IBDP has been formally recognized and there are direct validation tables for university access. Universities and higher education institutions alike rely on reliable IBDP results year after year that are not subject to grade inflation as is often the case in national education systems. REGISTRATION REQUIREMENTS IN THE IBDP

The Academy International School welcomes all students. No student will be denied enrollment on the basis of race, gender, or special educational needs if the college has the resources to provide assistance to that student.

The Academy International School SEN and Inclusion Policy, September 2016

REQUIREMENTS FOR STUDENTS ENROLLED IN YEAR 11 AT THE ACADEMY INTERNATIONAL SCHOOL

To access the IBDP in Year 12 (DP1) students must have obtained a minimum of 6 IGCSEs with a grade of C or higher and generally at least a grade of B in the subjects they wish to take at higher level. It is necessary to obtain an A grade to take the subject of mathematics at the higher level. Students and their parents must complete the pre-registration form, including a motivation letter, and attend an informal interview with the IBDP Coordinator and the Director. They will also need to have an excellent attendance record of at least 90% in Year 11.

REQUIREMENTS FOR STUDENT APPLICANTS COMING FROM OTHER SCHOOLS

Applications from students coming from other schools will be considered on an individual basis. Those students coming from schools that offer the IGCSE examination system will need to meet the same requirements as listed above for The Academy students. Applicants may be required to take a placement test in some subject, especially higher level subjects, and an English placement test. Students and their parents must complete the pre-registration form, including a motivation letter, and attend an informal interview with the IBDP Coordinator and the Director. Copies of the notes of the two previous courses of the other school must be presented. The Academy will contact that school to obtain a letter of recommendation. All students are required to have achieved the level necessary to be successful on the IBDP. Parents are encouraged to familiarize themselves with the high school syllabus before beginning pre-registration so they can better understand the program we offer.
