We are always open to new talent and would love for you to send us your CV.
We are constantly evolving in response to the changing necessities of the students and reflecting the global environment. The children follow the National Curriculum of England which incorporates a wide spectrum of subjects and topics. The students take the Cambridge IGCSE exams in Key stage 4 and the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme in sixth form.
At The Academy International School there are over 500 students ranging in age from 2 to 18. Most of the students are Spanish, British, or German, while there are students from each of the continents. This international representation gives the students and staff a global perspective and allows for the promotion of a rich cultural experience. Many activities throughout the school year provide the children with the opportunity to share and learn from each other in an environment that promotes learning as a partnership between teachers, parents, children, and the community as a whole.

Why work here
The Academy is a great place to work, and Mallorca is a great place to live. We have a very low turnover of staff with most staff being employed at the school for over five years and many staff have been working here for over 10 years or more. Here you can read some of the benefits of working at The Academy and some of our staff testimonials.
“I joined The Academy as a temporary teacher for a class of four year olds and 21 years later, I’m still here! I have enjoyed seeing the school expand and develop from a small primary school to our current situation of having over 500 children, aged from 2 years old up to 18, on two different sites.
Despite this rapid growth, the school has retained a family atmosphere with children remaining in the school throughout their education and it is hugely satisfying to see children I taught when they four, graduating from our IB programme every summer. Similarly, there are many staff who have been at the school for over a decade which provides stability and experience, and also new staff join regularly, bringing fresh ideas and new methodologies.
Working in a supportive environment with colleagues who work as a cohesive team is important to me. I have taught in four different year groups since I started here and have held various posts of responsibility. I am now teaching year 4 three days a week and spending the rest of my time as Assistant Head of Teaching and Learning. Over the years I have attended training courses on Technology skills, Outdoor Learning, Jolly phonics, First aid, Kiva and anti-bullying, Safeguarding and Talk for Writing to name a few. I love that as a school we have adapted and evolved, integrating new ideas into our teaching, responding to the changes in educational thinking and to global development.”
Jan – Primary Headteacher
“I started at The Academy intending to stay for just one year and now I am in my third year teaching here. I came for the weather but there is so much more to life in Mallorca. The Academy is only a short train journey from the city of Palma so getting to work is easy for me.
This means I can enjoy the best of both worlds and be by the sea, city, and countryside. I love being the English coordinator for the primary school and feel that our strong team works together to make everyday fun, engaging and challenging for the children here. We are continuing our Talk for Writing journey, and it is fostering a love of learning across the school.
We have ensured teachers are trained in the approach from reception to Year 7, so it is a coherent approach across the school. We are committed to improving every year and I have undertaken several training courses since starting at The Academy, including differentiation and EAL for classroom teachers. I also attended a conference in Madrid on meeting the needs of the individual learner and promoting happiness in the classroom.”
Bethany Claire Hornsby – Primary Teacher
“I attended The Academy school for 13 years as a student and enjoyed learning every day due to the close relationships with my teachers and friends. I later went on to study, a Bachelor’s and Master’s degree in Music Composition, in the UK, and after finishing I joined The Academy school as a teacher to find that this atmosphere remained the same, a great teacher/student relationship. I have always considered this school as the perfect learning environment in Mallorca and I am now a proud father of 3 kids that are also learning and enjoying their education at The Academy School.”

Health and wellbeing
Staff health and wellbeing is important to us. We will do our best to enhance your wellbeing at work, and support staff with establishing a work-life balance. Our school counsellor supports all members of our school community, including staff.
The good weather in Mallorca makes it a great location for cycling or walking to work. Some staff enjoy a morning run!
Each year there are sports activities organised at school and there is a staff football team which takes part in a local football league. All staff enjoy a healthy lunch cooked on site.
Employee assistance and induction programme
Our human resources department and education team support all new staff as they are welcomed to the school. There is an induction programme with guidance and support from senior leaders. A mentor helps with all practical aspects of settling into a new school and the whole team are very supportive and understanding.
Our HR department guide new staff through the process of getting settled on the island, helping with registering with a health centre and local council, and setting up bank accounts.
