The first of the Duke of Edinburgh hikes took place last weekend and the Year 10 students who are preparing for their Bronze certificate really enjoyed the trek to the lighthouse at Portals Vells. In Year 1 Spanish classes the children are doing a project on animals. They really like this topic, and they have learned that we belong to the group of vertebrate animals and we are mammals. They have also learned the classification of the different species of animals according to their characteristics. On Thursday they wrote what they want to know

In Nursery this week the focus was on environments and habitats. They made their own sensory and role-play activities throughout the week, including sea-life, arctic and forest small-world trays. They talked about why there are no dinosaurs living on the earth, and why the polar bears are losing their ice. The children made their own dens and caves and went

Sometimes before the start of a lesson the children go out for a warm up activity, to stretch, and feel ready for focused activities. Here the children felt energised and ready to enjoy their Spanish lesson learning the shapes and their characteristics. All the children are so happy to be paired with their reading buddies to enjoy a shared reading activity each week. The children build such a positive relationship and practise their reading at the same time. This week we also had a special reading treat for Year 1 as the Year 6 students read their own stories to the children.

In R1 Spanish classes the children are learning about primary emotions through the book “El monstruo de colores” (The colorful monster) and with play activities. What a great time they are having! We are very proud of how welcoming all the students have been to the new students who have joined The Academy this year. We are also really impressed by how well the students are mixing between year groups and being so inclusive in their play and interactions.
